Transition is a frightening proposal, yet for many transsexuals it really is the only option available. That being said the process itself is relatively personalized and definitely self driven. As of the creation of this page most health care professionals follow the
"The World Professional Association for Transgender Health's (WPATH) Standards of Care for Gender Identity Disorders", or as most of us call them: Standards of Care (SOC).
The SOC is a guide, or perhaps compass would be a better term. It doesn't really matter how you get there as long as you have the appropriate documentation. There are three basic "phases" as set forth by SOC:

- Psychological
- Medical
- Surgical
However, It is important to remember why you transition. It's a journey of finding out who you are. Separating that from which you are from that which you think you should be, which coincidentally is based solely on what you think other people think you should be. It can obviously get crazy confusing. And that's okay, because this is after all about you, not them.
