Financing the Dream
**update 10/7/2011** i've lost my job. I'll be able to keep my insurance through cobra at 500.00usd per month and I doubt I will be able to find a job willing to hire me with my surgery right around the corner. Now more then ever i need whatever help can be given. Thanks to one and all for supporting me however you can. you are appreciated**/update**
So awesomeness for me is that my job will cover the SRS surgery. I've done a lot of leg work and Marci Bowers is the surgeon, mostly because she is the only one willing to hassle with the insurance. However that makes sense since she herself is post op, she knows what we go through.
Insurance will still not cover electrolysis which Dr. Bowers wants done to prevent hair growth inside the vaginal cavity. It also wont cover things like voice surgery or liposuction. If you have the means and have it within you to help on my Journey I've set up a PayPal account specifically for this website. Any funds will go towards my transition.

At this time I don't have any hard numbers. Here's an idea of what I'm looking at though
- SRS: Work will pay 80% but I wont know till July or August. Marci Bowers is the surgeon I will be going to. On her site you can read about surgical expectations and see how she's developed by review the "outcomes". Her price was around 15 grand before she moved to San Mateo and that's if I don't need skin grafts or to use part of the colon.
- Electrolysis: I want is through e3000 down in Dallas and is $105.00 an hour. To clear my face my first treatment was $1200 USD. I believe and two days of time and that is only one treatment. It will take multiple treatments but the cost will go down. The benefit here is that they give you a local anesthetic. My doctor is willing to prescribe pain meds but he said for this kind of pain there aren't many options. Genital electrolysis is more however they have to have you as a patient there before.
- Liposuction: I've estimated 8000 USD here, but it could be ten, or it could be four. My goal here is to ensure a more feminine shape (and retain a maximum amount of breast tissue!). (The lack of link here means that I don't know who I'd go to, however I wouldn't have to travel anywhere for this which is a bonus in and of itself).
- Tummytuck: I went to a surgeron here in town who is willing to work with me...or work ON me rather. The tummy tuck is roughly 8grand with surgeons fees and hospital fees. He seems pretty confident that it would acheieve the feminine result i'm looking for. However with sh*ty credit and no one to help with that my chances are rather slim.
- Breast Aug: same doc as above and it would be about 5k or so for those. I'll see him dec 13th and revisit my options((i'll post links to his info soon))
- Voice Surgery and Trachea Shave: Last I checked it was 8000 USD, however the nurse that runs the financial aspect of things is going to see if she can get a medical necessity approval from the insurance in which case I would only pay for twenty percent! Again I'll know more about this in late summer. James P. Thomas, M.D is the surgeon I'd go to. His site contains a lot about him. The surgery would trim down the Adam's Apple (or laryngeal prominence) to relieve that masculine identifier and give a more feminine voice. It's called Feminization laryngoplasty.
